#cousin

Image
My cousin, Jessica, is loving, trustworthy, confident, authentic, hard-working, compassionate, and beautiful.  She is a daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to many.  When she was a young girl, she was a pain in my butt. 😂 You see, she is six years younger than me.  She was the little cousin that would spend time at my house periodically.  Because I had just three brothers and no sisters, I was the one who was "stuck" playing with Jessica.  When you're 16 years old, it's not real cool to be playing with a 10 year old (or so I thought this at the time).  Little did I know that she would someday  become one of the most important women in my life.  She is now the "sister-cousin" that I never had.  My hope is that all of my young, sweet nieces have a strong relationship with a woman that they trust explicitly as they grow into adulthood.  To have someone like that in your life means that you become that perso...

Tea Time

Image
Since my three brothers all decided to have some children in their "later" years, we have two waves of "kids" in our family.  The first wave ranges from 25 - 31 and the second wave ranges from 10 - 16.  What this has done has created endless fun and adventure for Nana Grammy and Gramps-they have been enjoying grandchildren for the past 31 years!  It benefits us too because the holidays are always full of fun, laughter, and games.  The older girl cousins have become advisors/confidantes to the younger batch of girl cousins.  It is one of the simple pleasures of my life to see my daughter and daughter-in-law as mentors to this crop of amazing young females.  On the occasions that a lot of us are together, the mentors and their mentees disappear for secret meetings.  It's a safe space created for anything to be brought to the table,  It's called "tea time" although I have never seen any tea consumed at these meetings.  I can only hope that...

Giving Part 2

Before I begin today here is a picture of the two matriarchs of this family.  Sue and Cindy have always lived near each other since birth.  They currently live one short mile from one another.  It's normal to find them hanging out either playing games or entertaining friends together.  Although they have very different personalities, I don't recall ever witnessing any ugliness between them!  Sister friends - what an amazing relationship!                                                                                                     Cindy              Sue My Aunt Cindy - She is really someone special too.  As we all know, t...

Giving Back - Part 1

One of the best things about this entire family is watching each of the women (younger and older) just blossom into the very best version of who they want to be.  When I say strong women, I mean it.  There is very little lack of confidence amongst this group and they all try very hard things.  Let me just share some of this greatness with you.  Again, these are things that we sometimes take for granted.  Because it's our family and our norm, we think that EVERY family is like this. But that's just not true.  For some reason, there is a unique inner strength that exists in the women by which I am blessed to be surrounded by.   Today I'll first start with the eldest amongst us:  my mom.  Also known as Nana, Nana Grammy, Aunt Sue or Sue.  At 83, she volunteers at a nursing home helping to take care of women who are YOUNGER than she is.  All 97 lbs of her pushes wheelchairs up and down ramps transporting residents to the dini...
I have  wanted to create a blog for quite some time now; however, I put it off.  Mostly due to ignorance on my part.  I have never blogged before and I'm quickly approaching 60.  I have been retired for a few years so new technology is swiftly in my rear view mirror.  What has inspired me to take this plunge is the strong female presence in my family.  Don't get me wrong, the men in my family are strong, loving, and quite amazing to include my husband (Brad), our son (Ryan 29), son in law (Harry 31) and our nephews (Ethan 26 and Joey 15) but this is really going to be for all of the women.  You see, my mom (Sue 83), and her sister, (my aunt Cindy 77), and Cindy's daughter, (my cousin Jessica) and I have been going on girls trips together for about 30 years.  We meet once or twice annually to bond, shop, laugh, eat and just enjoy each other.  It's our safe place:  where we can share, cry, love, dance, sing, and play games together....
